Five days, and counting.  (Monday, April 26 2004, 3:07 am)
Its now Monday, but yet still Sunday. I'm packing my stuff, getting ready to leave. only 5 days left. Five, thats "One, Two, Three, Four, Five". Its nothing, its so small that when I try to count it, I'm finished before I start. Try it, count from one to five. Do it as fast as possible. Now do it backwards. Unfortunatly its not going by as fast as that. I'll tell you how fast its going. How many hours are there in a day, and how many minutes in an hours and how many seconds in each minute, and how many miliseconds in each second. Now multiply those out, then multiply it by 5, for the five days. Thats 432000000 miliseconds. Now try counting from 1 to 432000000 backwards. Thats how slow its going. Maybe I should stop counting, and just pack.

Photographic memory vs. Flash backs  (Sunday, April 25 2004, 12:49 am)
My photographic memory let me down today. Not that I forgot the image of what I was looking for (more on that in a moment) but symmetry (ie. objects that look the same ) can make the mind go bezzerk.
So here is what happened. I went shopping today with my rental car. Went to a few malls. The last mall I went to is a pretty huge mall, with lots of parking space. So I parked the car as usual and went into the mall. Shopped around for around 6-7 hours, and when I was really tired I decided to head home. Came out of the mall, through the door that I went in, and guess what? the car wasn’t there. In fact even though I had the image of the place I parked in my head (though I hadn't paid attention to where I had parked) I couldn’t find any place that looked like the place I parked. I started walking around for a good 45 minutes without any luck. The damn parking lot is huge; unlike Canada, there is a lot of parking space in this country. I didn’t know what to do, I was already tired from 7 hours of walking in the mall, and had no energy to walk around any more. So I stopped for a second to think about it. I knew exactly what the place I parked looked like, but it seemed to have completely disappeared. I always though it was funny how people lose their cars in parking spots, as I had never had this problem before. I always remember the exact paths that I take when walking without paying attention to them. So I was thinking and started getting flash backs of when I entered the mall, the road, the traffic light, and I remembered going past a safeway, but the safe way is on the other side of the mall!!! So I told myself what the heck, I'll walk there, so as soon as I got to the safeway, I was so happy, because I started getting more and more flash backs, right then I knew EXACTLY where I had parked, it was far from the safeway, but I just knew then. I could see it in my head :D
So I found out what the problem was. The mall has two Macy's one is on one side, and is women's and the other is on the other side of the mall, and is men's. From my photographic memory, I remembered walking past women's clothing as I walked into the mall through Macy's door. And that's why I had gone out of the other Macy's door. haha, the problem was that Men's Macy's has women's clothing as well and its right at the entrance of the door. :D

Iran vs. Germany  (Monday, April 19 2004, 3:44 am)
Every four years it happens, the world comes together, puts all the weapons away, to see who has better skills in the art of football. And every four years, after cheering for Iran until they are kicked out, I switch to either England or Germany, to see their victory. In 98 my two favourite teams played against each other in front of the world, and I was cheering for Iran, and when they lost, I did not continue to cheer Germany on (for a couple of days only :D).
We deserved to win against Germany in 98, from the begining of the game, non of our players were trying. Dai was just sitting back and watching the game from the front, and watched every header opportunity go right by him. It was as if they were all paid to loose.
Now on October 8th, we are playing against Germany, and this time its happening at home, in Iran. And this time no one has paid off our players, and we're gonna win both in heart and on the field.

Not so far away anymore.  (Sunday, April 18 2004, 7:06 pm)
As the final days of my LONG 4 month trip to Santa Clara are finally passing by, I feel closer and closer to a place I call home. I can hardly wait to see all the familiar faces again.
Its unfortunate, however, that most of those familiar faces will be gone by the time I get back to Waterloo, but that is life, and I can live with that, its like moving from hell to heaven, now if some of the heavenly fruit are missing, its allright, I can live with that.
All in all, I CANT WAIT... :D

Blackmailing 101!! It worked!!  (Wednesday, April 14 2004, 3:46 pm)
So its now 1:00PM, and I have been invited to sign-up for a google email (Gmail) account. All thanks to Jason, and employee at Google.com.
So now I have promised to write a review and publish it. I will be now testing it out. And will keep you updating. First though I have to think of an id, as my first observation is that the username has to be 6 or more characters. :(
I WANT ali as my username. why why why... :`(
Hehe, I am actually happy that I can get an account, not too much worried about the name. :)

Blackmailing Google  (Wednesday, April 14 2004, 12:48 pm)
My forth post on google this month, and more to come. :D
Well I woke up this morning, thinking that since I'm only a couple of miles away from Google (actually like a 10 minute drive) I should go down and beg for a Gmail account.
Here is my plan: Get out of bed by 10:30, show my face at work for a couple of minutes, setup some things to run on the screen, check out google on mapquest for exact directions, print out a color map to google, get into my car, and drive to google.
In preparation I should also drive to a hardware store, and buy some chain. Once I get to Google's Headquarters, I would go inside and first ask nicely for a Gmail account, if refused and looked at like an idiot, I would then to the door of the main lobby and chain myself to the door handle, and would threaten to stay there until I get a gmail account.
Sounds like a good plan, I'll let you know what happens.

Googoora Island  (Wednesday, April 14 2004, 6:30 am)
Hmm.. Been so busy here at NVIDIA pas couple of weeks. And as I am only a couple of miles away from Google, this is my thid post about them this month.
Browsing on one of the sites that I visit frequently, I realized that I had missed a small link that was in the corner of the site. The link is to Googland.com saying that google is to by Googoora Island, which has the country domain extention ".go" and the main google.com is to become google.go . How true is this? you ask. Well that beats me, I have no idea why they would want to do that, and so I dont think they will, but oh well, I at least enjoyed the idea.

GooOS?  (Wednesday, April 07 2004, 1:18 pm)
Here is a very interesting and probably true argument about google's plan's and goals from the begining through the distant future.

Faleh Hafez!  (Wednesday, April 07 2004, 4:28 am)
I have now added a "Fal" button to the Hafez page. This button will pick a random hafez song. The randomization is not a natural random number, but rather based on a seed that in this case is based on the milisecond that you click the button. I will probably later utilize random.org's natural random number API. For now this will work like all other one's you've seen out there on the web. Hope you enjoy it.

Who wants to be my business partner!?  (Tuesday, April 06 2004, 4:10 am)
As I was reading this article http://www.payvand.com/news/04/apr/1027.html
a business idea came to my head.
Well the idea involves going to Iran, Signing everyone up for pilgrims to Karbala for when the borders open, then when thousands of people sign-up, which they will right away, use the money to buy some busses, well in the hundreds, and we'll be the biggest Karbala karevan.
One good thing is that businesses on the Iraqi side are ready for any type of business, and real cheap. That is you can setup hotel service and all, for the pilgrims, for much cheaper than the Iranians expect it would cost, specially when you buy in bulk. Every thing else too on the Iraqi side will be easy to deal with. The only problem would be some un-named "Ayatollas" (namely from Kerman) that also want to make good profit out of this, and would not allocate any part of the 10000 people to our karavan. but that can be worked out with dedicating %age of the income to the "families of shohada" charity orgonizations (well its a little more complicated than that, but not impossible).
Anyone in? Remember you heard this Idea here first. If anyone else does it, they are stealing my idea, an infrigment of the international (not including Iran) copyright laws, and I could legally sue you. Unless the business is in Iran of course. wait, it is in Iran, damn, oh well.
Please email your ideas to imam-tours@allpersian.com.

Chicken and Egg Problem.  (Monday, April 05 2004, 2:18 am)
Have you ever been asked which one came first, chicken or the egg? Well I say who cares, cause today I cooked some chicken, and it tasted sooooo good. I marinated the meat yesterday with fresh lime juice, Tai peppers, onions, ginger, salt and pepper. Then today, I preheated the oven, and put the chicken in there. You can't believe how good it was. I had never had better Jooje Kabab in my life. So rich in taste. God made everything for a reason, and he made "da chikan" to be cut by the neck, drained of blood, skin peeled off, chopped to pieces, de-boned, and placed under 400 degree tempratures, so that we can enjoy and appreciate our life a little more.
Note to all vegeterians: eat da chikan or da chikan will eat you.

Quest? No Quest!  (Thursday, April 01 2004, 6:49 pm)
As all of you know, Quest was built by Peoplesoft, and so was Access (Co-op students only :D). Here is some awesome news for anyone out there who hates peoplesoft as much as I do.
Doesn't this sound like something that happened at waterloo.
"PEOPLESOFT has been sued for alleged fraud by Ohio State for its role in a software project at Cleveland State University.
The state wants more than $130 million because Peoplesoft "misrepresented the capabilities of its software and failed to provide promised features".

No More Hotmail or Yahoo  (Thursday, April 01 2004, 6:43 pm)
The days of Hotmail and Yahoo will soon be over as Google will soon introduce GMail, Google's email Service. The service will provide you with 1000MB (1GB) or space to hold your email compaired to Yahoo's 6MBs. You can also use google's search engine power to search your own email.
Looking forward to seeing this service start. Though I'm quite happy with uwaterloo email, I only have another year here at waterloo. Well maybe i'll stick with ali@allpersian.com :D
